Following The Light of Change
Suzanne has been photographing for over three decades, though admittedly, some of those years have been more concentrated than others. She started learning in the darkroom with black and white images and focused solely on tonality and controlling light. Now, in the digital age, she finds the tools different but her focus remains on tonality and controlling light. She is inspired by broad expansions of light and color, beauty in nature, and the landscapes that surround her. She is interested in photographing the decay of iconographic imagery: broken down trucks, drive-ins, barns, movie theater marquees. Suzanne is drawn to the challenge of capturing the "beautiful impermanence and rustic decay" symbolized in the Japanese phrase "wabi-sabi." She photographs the United States in all of its changing beauty with her particular and unique vision.
